IS CURRENT RANJI POINTS SYSTEM IS OK ...?

After a batsmen-dominated Ranji Trophy  second round that had as many as
34 centuries, and  nine of the 12  league games ended in draws this is the time
to rethink the point  system in our top rank domestic championship.
Here we quoted  about other domestic  championship point system
in England and south africa  compared with our system .
And also  some foreign coaches also criticsice  about our point system

Meyrick Pringle rajastan  coach

Pringle calls for Ranji points revamp

After a batsmen-dominated Ranji Trophy round that had as many as 34 centuries,
Meyrick Pringle, the Rajasthan coach, has called for additional points to be awarded
for runs scored and wickets taken, irrespective of the match's result.
While some of the changes introduced to the Ranjis this season have come in for praise,
including the introduction of three tiers, the points system remains almost untouched.
Though the BCCI has introduced an additional point for an outright victory in order to
encourage the teams to go for an outright victory, it seems to have had little impact
on the teams' attitude as nine of the 12 second-round league games ended in draws.
Pringle, the former South Africa bowler who has been in charge of defending champions
Rajasthan this year, wanted the BCCI to follow the example of the English or the
South African domestic competitions.

Dermot Reeve, Maharashtra coach

Maharashtra coach Dermot Reeve feels the points system in the Ranji Trophy needs
to be amended.“The present points system isn’t good,” he said after his team’s 104-run loss to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The former England cricketer spoke in favor of additional points
for batting and bowling performances.“If, for instance, a team scores 400 in 110 overs, it should be awarded four points. Similarly, if the bowling side picks up four wickets in 110 overs, four points should be given to the team.“A team scoring an outright victory should get 10 points. Such a points system has been used in England for a long time now and it has been successful.”

Points system in England county championship

The county championship works on a points system, the winner being the team
with most points in the first division. The points are currently awarded as follows:

Win: 16 points + bonus points.
Tie: 8 points + bonus points.
Draw: 3 points + bonus points.
Loss: Bonus points.

Bonus points are collected for batting and bowling. These points can only be obtained
from the first 110 overs of each team's first innings.
The bonus points are retained regardless  of the outcome of the match.

    Batting

    200-249 runs: 1 point
    250-299 runs: 2 points
    300-349 runs: 3 points
    350-399 runs: 4 points
    400+ runs: 5 points

    Bowling

    3-5 wickets taken: 1 point
    6-8 wickets taken: 2 points
    9-10 wickets taken: 3 points

Deductions

(Occasionally, a team may have points deducted.
These are normally small deductions, between 0.5 and 1 point and are most
commonly handed out for slow over rates or for poor pitches. More severe deductions can be levied however;for example, in 2005 Surrey were handed an 8 point penalty for ball tampering.
At the end of the season, this caused Surrey to be relegated to the second division,
as after the deduction they finished one point behind Middlesex, who remained in the
first division. In 2007, Glamorgan were deducted 8 points for an unprepared wicket at Swansea.
Also, in 2011, Warwickshire, Hampshire and Kent were all deducted 8 points for
poor pitches at Edgbaston, the Rose Bowl and Canterbury respectively.)

Points system in South Africa domestic championship

1 For an outright win: 10 points

2 For a tie on a double innings: 6 points

3 No Match - 5 points each

4 First innings points: Awarded only for batting and bowling performances in the first 100 overs of each first innings and retained irrespective of the match result

4.1 Batting bonus points : 1 point awarded on attaining 150 runs, and 0,02 of a point for each run scored thereafter.

4.2 Bowling bonus points: A maximum of 4 points to be awarded, one each at the fall of the 3rd., 5th., 7th. and 9th. wicket.

5 If play starts when less than 10 hours playing time remains, a one innings match will be played but no bonus points will be scored. The side winning on the one innings to score 6 points

ranji trophy  championship point system

Points in the league stages of  divisions are currently awarded as follows:

Scenario                                      Points

Win Outright                                  6
Bonus Point
(for innings and 10 wicket wins)    1
1st Innings Lead                             3 *
No Result                                        1
1st Innings Deficit                           1 *
Lost Outright                                   0

note* – If match ends in a draw.

If the teams are tied on both innings then they would get three(3) points each.
